The Attuned Parent Project began with a shared discovery.
Although each of us had spent decades serving women, children, and families through different professions, we all arrived at the same profound realization.
The greatest opportunity to change a child’s future was not by beginning with the child.
It was by beginning with the parent.
Long before The Attuned Parent Project had a name, two of us, Rosaleigh Neal and Dr. Grace Vitale, were collaborating on a children’s mental health book series designed to help children better understand their emotions. As the project evolved, they invited Dr. Mary Filice to contribute her expertise in human development, theology, and the Enneagram.
During our very first meeting in 2022, Dr. Mary asked Dr. Grace a simple question:
“What is the greatest challenge you face in your work with children?”
Her insight became the turning point.
Years of clinical experience had shown Dr. Grace that children frequently made remarkable progress in therapy, only to return to environments where their parents’ own unresolved wounds, emotional patterns, and ways of relating unintentionally disrupted that healing.
In that moment, something became unmistakably clear.
Children can only flourish to the degree that the adults caring for them are emotionally present, self-aware, and attuned.
Around the same time, Dr. Mary had begun collaborating with Suzanne Dion through their shared work with the Enneagram. Although their professional journeys had been very different, they quickly discovered a deep alignment in both purpose and conviction. Suzanne’s years working with incarcerated women had revealed the lifelong impact of childhood neglect, trauma, and broken attachment. Dr. Mary’s work in theology, philosophy, and human development had led her to the very same conclusion: the earliest relationships shape the trajectory of a person’s entire life.
Together, the four of us recognized something both simple and profound.
If we want to change the future of children, we must first support the emotional well-being of the parent, most importantly, the mother and primary caregiver.
Over the next four years, we immersed ourselves in research, dialogue, lived experience, and collaborative design. We brought together child psychology, education, attachment science, nervous system awareness, theology, human development, relationship dynamics, and the Enneagram to create something that did not yet exist.
The Attuned Parent Project (TAPP).
Today, TAPP is founded on the belief that a child’s first environment is the emotional world of the caregiver. When mothers and caregivers develop greater self-awareness, emotional regulation, and attunement, they create the safety, connection, and security children need to flourish.
Our vision is to create a world where children flourish through emotionally safe, attuned relationships that begin with the mother-child bond.
We believe the future of every child begins with the emotional well-being of the parent.
When we support the parent, we transform the child.
When children flourish, generations flourish.
By nurturing the first relationship, we shape the future.
TAPP’s mission is to empower mothers and caregivers to become the safe, attuned, and emotionally present foundation every child needs from the very beginning.
Through education, self-awareness, attachment science, nervous system awareness, and the Enneagram, we support mothers and caregivers in understanding their own patterns, tending to their emotional well-being, and cultivating greater self-awareness so they can foster emotionally connected relationships that help children flourish into healthy, resilient, and compassionate human beings.
